The Basilica of Saint Mary hosted this event on December 12, 2020.</p> <p>Father Magat is a member of the Society of Saint Sulpice from the Diocese of Arlington. Arlington Bishop Paul Loverde ordained him to the priesthood in 2005. Currently, he is in residence at Assumption Seminary in San Antonio as he completes his doctoral dissertation in moral theology.</p> <p><em>Founded in 1795, the Basilica of Saint Mary in Old Town Alexandria is the first Catholic parish established in Virginia. Pope Francis named the church a minor basilica on December 6, 2017 due to its important role in the growth of the Catholic Church in North America.</em></p>
