Episode 108 // Keeping Mental Health Top-of-Mind as a Psychiatric Pharmacist

In pharmacy, we talk a lot about “health”—in particular, there is one facet that is not only essential in all pharmacy practice settings, but can actually be a unique niche of specialization: mental health. That’s why in this episode, we are going to dive deep into the role of being a psychiatric pharmacist with our guest, Abbey Krysiak, PharmD, BCPP, who currently serves as an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the LECOM School of Pharmacy for the past 9 years. She graduated from the LECOM School of Pharmacy in 2010 and completed a PGY1 residency at Millcreek Community Hospital/LECOM. Following residency, she practiced as a clinical pharmacist on the geriatric behavioral health unit at Millcreek Community Hospital and this is where she currently practices as a psychiatric pharmacist. Following residency, she pursued her board certification in psychiatric pharmacy, and believes this solidified her area of expertise and helped distinguish her role as a clinical pharmacist in this area. She also is a full-time faculty member, with responsibilities including teaching the psychiatric curriculum as well as drug information. Dr. Krysiak is also involved with the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP) and has established a student chapter at her campus. Resources Mentioned in this Podcast: 1.
