27.14: Jesus in the Book of Ruth Finale: Marriage, A Baby Boy and Hope!

<p>Redemption. Historically, the word means purchasing the freedom of a &nbsp;slave in order to set them free. In Hebrew law, when a married man died, &nbsp;his closest, male next-of-kin, had the right to purchase his property &nbsp;and also marry his widow. They came together as a package deal. In the &nbsp;story of Ruth, Naomi is the widow of Elimelech, whose name means “God is &nbsp;King”. Ruth is the widow of Naomi and Elimelech’s son, Mahlon. &nbsp;Apparently, there was a closer “kinsman-redeemer” than Boaz. This &nbsp;person, probably was a 1st cousin, where Boaz may have been a second &nbsp;cousin. The family-redeemer would also save the widow from poverty. &nbsp;Boaz, though in love with Ruth, had to do the right thing and go to the &nbsp;closer kinsman-redeemer before he could marry her.
