<div>Eight journalists were arrested in Parliament on Tuesday. <br> <br> The media professionals, including a reporter from Radio Miraya, had gone to Parliament to cover a press conference at the invitation of a group of Members of Parliament. </div> <br> <div>On arrival the reporters had their equipment confiscated and were transferred to another location, before they were eventually released after several hours. <br> <br> A section of legislators led by, Juol Nhomngek Daniel, the MP representing Cueibet County referring to himself as the 'Leader of the Backbenchers' extended an invitation to media to cover a press conference to explain the challenges affecting MPs in their work and to update the public on the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement in their counties. </div> <br> <div>The Chairperson of the information committee in Parliament, John Agany, says the press conference was illegal. </div> <br> <div>Agany regretted the incident and says appropriate action will be taken to hold the legislators involved to account. </div>
