Deep inside the tattered history of America's lost stories resides disturbing stories of how Black Skin was used for making shoes and other materials. These atrocities occurred during slavery and Jim Crow. I encountered an experience in the same day that dealt with a company in Arizona that made shoe shining grease and another company that made shoes during the 1850's. I felt my ancestors wanted me to research shoe shinning. I then came across historical findings on Jim Crow and leather shoes made from black skin. There are shoe shinning booths that still exist. Better yet, there are elite families that have artifacts from slavery and Jim Crow in their homes. I wondered why we are seen as less than human but this is very disturbing and unsettling. Yes other cultures experienced hardships but black Americans have not been given an Apology or reparations. I call out self hating individuals as well who do not see race as a problem. Beyond this conversation, the real question is why are black people seen as less than human by many people of all races? Call of My Ancestors gives a voice to the nameless, lost into histories time. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/hair-and-skin-alchemy/support
