This lecture discusses key ideas from the work of the 20th century philosopher and historian, Michel Foucault, "The Subject and Power" It focuses specifically on the section "How Is One To Analyze The Power Relationship", in which Foucault argues that the primary focus cannot be placed upon institutions or the political sphere. Instead, they need to be examined in terms of power-relations. Foucault also suggests five lines of analysis: differentiations, objectives, instrumental modes, forms of institutionalization, and degrees of rationalization.
