Hottest Summer on Record But 5th Wettest; Tri-State Area Remained in Drought; Some Relief from Heat But Remains Dry to Officially Start Fall

<p>Summer 2021 was certainly one for the books, becoming the hottest summer on record, beating out the dust bowl year of 1936.  The Western and Northern tier of states saw the greatest and most widespread heat, most of these States recorded their warmest summer on record, and 16 additional states had their top five warmest. </p>
