Clare CATU Calls For Stricter Penalties For Landlords With Sub-Standard Properties

A Clare tenants' advocacy group has called into question the method used by Clare County Council to inspect rental properties. Of the 1,058 rental properties inspected in Clare last year, over 93% were found to be in breach of the Standards For Rented Houses Regulations. The local authority has confirmed that properties inspected must be free from damp and structurally sound internally and externally. Clare chairperson the Community Action Tenants Union George Stavrou believes there are questions around the thoroughness of the inspection process.
