<p>Patients with chronic kidney disease are at high risk of worsening kidney disease and cardiovascular events. Treatments that can slow down the worsening of kidney disease and reduce the need for dialysis and kidney transplants and the risk of cardiovascular events are potentially of great importance. While diabetes remains the biggest cause of chronic kidney disease, over half of patients with chronic kidney disease do not have diabetes, so treatments that work in people with and without diabetes are key.</p> <p>In this interview, David Preiss MBChB, MRCP, FRCPath, PhD and Cindy L.
