<p>On this episode of Vaccine 411…can we “fake out” the virus until we find a vaccine? </p><p>First, the latest vaccine news from around the world.</p><p>United States: The CDC and an advisory committee are working on a “ranking system” for a roll-out of any approved vaccine reports The New York Times. The initial plan indicates vital medical and national security officials first, followed by essential workers then high-risk individuals including the elderly and those with underlying conditions. </p><p>The FDA granted “fast tracked” status to Pfizer and German based partner BioNTech for two of their potential vaccines. This will speed up the regulatory process, with potential approval within 6 months. The companies plan to have up to 100 million doses ready by the end of this year. </p><p>Russia: The Gamaleya Institute in Moscow plans to enter Phase III trials with their vaccine candidate in mid-August. 41 initial test subjects were involved in the study. The vaccine was proven safe and participants developed an immune response. </p><p>Australia: The University of Queensland and CSL have launched Phase I trials for their vaccine candidate. 120 volunteers between 18 and 55 will be injected with the vaccine or a placebo.
