The Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen with Aisha Jumaan and Jehan Hakim

<p>Join SWANA collective member Soraya Zarook with guests Aisha Jumaan and &nbsp;Jehan Hakim as they offer us an update on the several man-made crises &nbsp;that have compounded in Yemen since 2015. In the past seven years, Saudi Arabia has imposed a land, air, and sea blockade on Yemen with the intent to prevent the flow of weapons to Houthi rebels. The result of these blockades, which are supported by the U.S., is the devastation of the civilian population through a lack of food, water, and medical supplies. A new United Nations report has projected that the death toll from Yemen's war would reach 377,000 by the end of 2021, including those killed as a result of indirect and direct causes.&nbsp;Last year, SWANA Region Radio <a href="https://open.spotify.com/episode/5OcMtcNYvVF87I9UPCQlcl" target="_blank">covered</a> the humanitarian crisis and the hunger strike taken up by members of the Yemeni Liberation Movement that demanded that the US end the blockade in Yemen.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Aisha Jumaan</strong> MPH, PhD, is the Founder and President of the Yemen Relief and Reconstruction Foundation, which you can donate to. Jumaan has over 30 years of experience in public health, including in viral vaccine preventable diseases, cancer research, maternal &amp;amp; child health and nutrition, and women in development. She worked with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for over a decade. Jumaan also worked in her native home, Yemen, with UNFPA and UNDP. She also participated in health-related program development, evaluation, and training activities for the Peace Corps. She has served on the faculty of Emory University, as well as Sana’a University. Jumaan is currently working as an Independent Consultant coordinating health- projects in Yemen.</p> <p><strong>Jehan Hakim</strong> chairs the <a href="https://www.instagram.com/yemenialliancecommittee/" target="_blank">Yemeni Alliance Committee</a>. The YAC organizes protests and actions, coordinates congressional visits, creates social media toolkits and
