Ennis Councillor Fears "Health Inequality" In The Midwest In Relation To Cancer Survival

An Ennis councillor fears the Midwest region is suffering from "health inequality" in relation to cancer survival. Figures obtained from the HSE show the Midwest has a lower cancer survival rate across the board than the national average across, with breast cancer patients in the region having an 81.6% survival rate, compared to 88.2% nationally. The survival rate for colorectal cancer patients in the Midwest is 64.4% compared to 65.9% nationally while the survival rate for lung cancer patients in the region is just 17.4% compared to 24.3% nationwide. Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard claims this part of the country is particularly disadvantaged when it comes to cancer detection and treatment.
