Court sentences man to life imprisonment for sodomizing two ‘almajiri’ pupils

<p>A Jigawa State High Court sitting in Birnin Kudu on Thursday convicted and sentenced a 25-year-old man, Israfilu Sagiru of Zarena Village, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area to life imprisonment for the offence of rape.</p>, <p>The convict was first arraigned on 5th September 2021, before the High Court on a two-count rape charges for luring and sodomizing two ‘almajiri’ pupils aged 11 and 12, on the pretext of giving them new clothes.</p>, <p>In order to prove the case, the prosecution called three witnesses, tendered a confessional statement of the defendant and evidence of a forensic examination.</p>, <p>Delivering judgment, Justice Musa Ubale said the prosecution from the State Ministry of Justice, had proved all the ingredients of rape.</p>, <p>He said the offense was contrary to Section 3 (1) (e) of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law (VAPP) No. 02, 2021.</p>, <p>Justice Ubale therefore sentenced the accused person to life imprisonment.</p>
