Council Dispels Suggestions Of Ennis A "Soft Landing Ground" For Homeless From Other Counties

Clare County Council has moved to dispel suggestions that Ennis has become a "soft landing ground" for people from other counties seeking homeless services. It follows recent claims that the Laurel Lodge Hostel is housing people from Limerick and other counties, leading to a rise in anti-social behaviour and public order incidents connected to the hostel. A key rule of homeless accommodation in Ireland is that those seeking shelter must apply to their 'centre of interest' which is the local authority of the county in which they ordinarily reside. Ballybeg Fianna Fáil Councillor Claire Colleran-Molloy says it's important for the people of Clare to know that the county's homeless services aren't being taken advantage of.
