Council Calls On Garda Commissioner And Justice Minister To Urgently Revisit Local Policing Model

Clare County Council will write to the Justice Minister and Garda Commissioner to seek an urgent revision of local policing. It follows a cross-party motion put forward by seven councillors at the monthly meeting of the local authority, which claims constituents are feeling vulnerable due to a lack of Gardaí on the ground. Currently there are 306 Gardaí serving in this county, which is twenty-four below the national average. Shannon Independent Councillor Gerry Flynn says there is a complete lack of confidence in local communities.
