A Clare farming representative is calling on the government to reassure international markets of the standard of Irish Beef. It comes as China has suspended exports from Ireland following the the detection of atypical BSE in a dead cow that arrived in the country this week. BSE which is a progressive neurological disorder was last detected in Irish Cattle in 2020 and resulted in the country being locked out of the Chinese market for the next three years. Cratloe based General Secretary of the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association Eddie Punch has been telling me that while any disruption to trade is dissapointing, this case is not expected to have a long term burden for local producers.
