Brother Giuseppe Argese - Mukiri arrived in Igembe on 24th, December 1957 along with Brother John Comaron of Mujwa Mission, as an architect, but after about ten years at Tuuru Mission, and after opening Tuuru Children's Home for the Cripples; he felt the pain for the lack of water at Tuuru mission. He therefore, adopted another extra imperative role of a water engineer without realizing the future weight and the demand it place upon his shoulders in order to satisfy the community with water he had chosen to give them in the region. In 1960, along with three other Brothers, they managed to design and complete building Meru Catholic Cathedral and thereafter, each of the two Brothers, Joseph and John remained in their respective regions; Igembe, Tigania, Isiolo, Wajir, Garissa, Mandera and Malindi for Joseph; and Imenti, Chuka and Embu for John. In the end, Brother Argese, designed many Churches in Igembe and Tigania including those in the North Eastern Province. From 1967, he concentrated his efforts in Nyambene forest trying to find sources of water to feed the thirsty community of Igembe region. He did his work silently without announcing his plans and intentions and for that he earned a special name of honor "Mukiri", that he accepted without qualms. He lived among the people at Mukululu village within Nyambene forest, where he designed and built the Shrine that took over 20 years to complete and be opened on 13th, December 2011 during the Centenary Celebrations by the Bishop of Meru The Rt. Rev. Salesius Mugambi. On 20th, September, 2018 God called Giuseppe Argese-Mukiri to in His kingdom after serving His people of Igembe for more than 60 years without fatigue. Brother Mukiri, had requested his burial to be held at Mukululu Shrine. His request was honored and he was laid to rest in peace at the grounds of the Shrine.
