<p>This began as a discussion hosted by the Miami Dade Chamber of Commerce to provide business owners strategies for maintaining mental health during COVID-19. After the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd, this also became a discussion about the effects of systemic racism on businesses. </p> <p>G. Eric Knowles, President and CEO of the MD Chamber of Commerce, Matthew Pigatt, Opa Locka's Mayor and also the Chamber's Minority and Small Business Enterprise Manager, and I engage a discussion about <strong>African American history dating back to the 16th century and how through the centuries, our history has impacted money, business relations and real estate in our communities. </strong>Together we process the following:</p> <p>1. How America's history affects the mental status of African Americans, Blacks and minorities</p> <p>2. We list some of the disparities in the Black community, including wealth/financial, not just health</p> <p>3. How mental health problems can affect us as entrepreneurs, business owners and how it can affect our staff</p> <p>4. Cultural sensitivity - what should business owners be aware of</p> <p>5. And of course, the SOLUTIONS: how do we improve our own mental wellbeing and our team's mental wellness????</p> <p>6.
