Description

Many countries in Africa have poor reputations when it comes to LGBT rights. The  Commissioner / council man Andrew Ikechukwu Ashiofu breaks down  this uniformly gloomy view  and also highlights the ways in which sexual and gender minorities are marginalised by , Immigration , Washington African Community , religious and traditional leaders .  Of the 69 countries that criminalize same-sex relations, 33 are in Africa.  In most cases, these laws are remnants of colonial rule, and the vague wording of these prohibitions, such as “carnal knowledge against the order of nature” resonate with the decorum of that era.  Andrew Ikechukwu Ashiofu has with fellow LGBTQ+ Nigerians in establishing human rights advocacy and asylum aid for LGBTQ+ Immigrants seeking help. He is a member of DPHIU, the first Greek fraternity for gay men of color. Andrew is also a planning council member with the Seattle HIV/AIDS planning council and co-chair of the King County Democrat's DEI committee. He is a Commissioner on the Seattle LGBTQ+ Commission where he is a Co-Chair.
