Its history dates back to the third century. the church is located in Coptic Cairo formerly old Cairo which encompasses the Babylon Fortress, the Hanging Church, and the Greek church of Saint George. Coptic Cairo was a stronghold for Christianity both before and during the Islamic era.</p>
