Description
A former Mayor of Clare has accused energy companies which increase consumer prices as soon as wholesale prices go up of "unfairly price-gouging". The latest figures from the CSO show wholesale electricity prices have dropped more than 42% in twelve months and 13.5% between March and April. Councillor Johnny Flynn believes that if companies increase consumer prices as soon as wholesale prices rise, there should be a reduction in the amount customers are billed for when prices fall. The Ennis Fine Gael Councillor claims it's unfair to impose price increases immediately, if changes aren't passed on to sonsumers at the same pace when wholesale prices reduce.
