"Made in Japan" is a live classic rock album originally by Deep Purple. It has been covered several times by Dream Theater. In continuation of their tradition of covering a classic album in its entirety at any two-night stands in the same city, Dream Theater performed Deep Purple's "Made in Japan" at two shows in Japan (January 13 in Tokyo and January 15, 2006, in Osaka). Rather than mixing up the tracks as Deep Purple did (Portnoy really wanted to match up the cities song for song, but it was obvious that the better performance for DT was the Osaka show at NHK Hall, so that is the performance included here). It is notable that as they are covering a live album, the band stays "in character" with James LaBrie even saying the same things that Ian Gillan said during the original performance. Roger Glover himself was very impressed with the recording and blessed the album by mixing it.
