John 4: 1-42 Though Jesus engaged in a public ministry by preaching and teaching, He also took part in personal evangelism, our subject for today, is found in Jesus’ encounter with a Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well. I. Contact (John 4:1-9) A. Contact and connection are a must if we are to be fruitful in our attempts to share the gospel of Jesus. B. Create contact and connection opportunities: C. Jesus contends that the seed has been sown and the fields are “white already to harvest” (John 4:34-38) II. Challenge (John 4:10-19) A. A difficult step and stumbling block for most Christians. B. The turning point could be a current news event, a difficulty they are facing, the death of a friend or family member, facing their own death, or it may simply be a question someone asked them or that they have. III. Confirmation (John 4:20-26) A. This is where the Christian’s talk turns to walk. B. Confirmation comes by in the form of BE, KNOW, and DO IV. Call (John 4:20-26) A. After every sales pitch, Bible study, or sermon, there is a call to action. A call to do something with the information they’ve just received. B. In the case of personal evangelism, the call may be making another appointment for the next Bible study, or the next church service. V. Conversion (John 4:20-26) A. At some point, there is no set time because people move, think, and decide on differing timelines, the person needs to decide to follow or not follow Christ. B. How do we know when they are ready? Ask. 1. We must ask, not force or pressure but ask. 2. If they’re not ready, continue to treat them with Christian charity, continue to call them to action, continue to witness to them, and continue to ask for a commitment at varying times. VI. Sanctification A. Sanctification is a matter for a team of people – the church and its leaders. It involves training up the new Christian, making them a disciple of Christ. VII. Multiplication (John 4: 28-30; 39-42) A. This last step takes excitement and zeal on our part. It
