Sinn Féin Councillor Calls For Urgent Removal Of Barriers To Addiction Treatment Services

Calls have been made for a low threshold detox centre in Clare. The county's Sinn Féin Councillor has raised concern over a rapid infiltration of illegals substances throughout local communities, with the number of people treated for cocaine use in Ireland up 170% in the last decade. In 2021, the Community Healthcare Organisation area of Clare, Limerick & North Tipperary had the largest waiting list for drug detox beds nationwide. Shannon Councillor Donna McGettigan, who raised the motion at this months meeting of the local authority, says joined up thinking between policy makers is needed to prevent devastating outcomes.
