We are enjoying a brief break in the summer heat and dryness we have seen across the Plains, South and Southwest the entire month of July. These areas have seen widespread 100-degree temperatures and a complete lack of rainfall had already drought conditions just intensify and worsen, some locations three categories. Even with good rainfall this week, the drought has already taken its toll on any dryland crops and damage has occurred. USDA crop progress reports for Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas have good to excellent corn rating all below 39%.
