Campion: Top of the Lake: China Girl & The Portrait of a Lady

<p>Critics Inkoo Kang and Daniel Schroeder discuss two of Jane Campion's least regarded works, <em>Top of the Lake: China Girl</em> and <em>The Portrait of a Lady</em>. We talk about our unexpected disappointment with <em>China Girl</em>, how Campion didn't seem to care about telling the stories of women of color, and Gwendoline Christie's height. We were pleasantly surprised by <em>Portrait</em>, which when compared to her other less-than-loved movies doesn't stand out, but contains some consistently relevant Campion themes and a bunch of film school flourishes we couldn't help but love.</p>
