<p>What Up With Rob and Chris:</p> <p><br></p> <p>Daraja Academy is a revolutionary idea – a secondary school where remarkable Kenyan girls, otherwise forgotten due to the lack of school fees, are given the one thing they desire most… a chance to succeed because Daraja and its supporters believe educated girls can transcend poverty and change the world. &nbsp;Daraja Academy is a secondary school to educate Kenyan girls who cannot otherwise afford the fees associated with public secondary schools in Kenya. The first class enrolled in 2009. As of 2021, Daraja Academy has 125 alumnae, and the school has 118 students in the 4 year Academy and 26 Transition (5th-Year) Students). 82% of alumni have been admitted to colleges and universities. 6 Graduates have attended (or are currently attending) college in the U.S. 33%Daraja graduates earn 33% more than the average Kenyan. 37% of graduates hold formal leadership positions. 80% of graduates are engaged in community service. Daraja Academy's educational curriculum adheres to the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) standards. &nbsp;The academy is situated on the former campus of the Baraka School, a small education program that took at-risk 12-year-old boys from the Baltimore public school system to the Kenyan outback which was featured in the 2005 documentary film The Boys of Baraka. &nbsp;Daraja Academy was the first project of Daraja Education Fund, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit, formed in 2006 by Jason and Jenni Doherty, educators from the San Francisco Bay Area. &nbsp;You too can sponsor a girl in Kenya to go to school. &nbsp;&nbsp;Melvis filled Daraja's last empty bed in 2020, and right now she needs your help more than any other girl.
