The Clare-based Chair of the Independent Farmers of Ireland insists farmers have "zero trust" in the government. It comes as the EU Nature Restoration Law is to be voted on in the European Parliament next week which could see farmers having their lands rewetted on a voluntary basis. In light of speculation that lands could be forcibly acquired for rewetting purposes, Minister for the Environment Eamon Ryan has confirmed that compulsory purchase orders will not be used to acquire peatlands. IFOI Chair and Kilmurry McMahon native Seamus Shannon says past schemes have left a bad taste in the mouths of the farmers.
