Let's talk about toxic masculinity in the music industry. This week we spoke to Oh Papa, a Sheffield-based 4 piece band, made up of Jack, Ric, Felix and Phil, who blend together facets of Americana, soft rock, subtle surf and indie in their music. Striving to change the perception of what it means to be an indie band from Yorkshire and dispel the toxic masculinity that has been prevalent in the indie rock scene, the members of Oh Papa actively take steps to challenge the culture they see around them. In this episode we talk with lead singer, Jack, and drummer, Felix, about finding a balanced dynamic within a group creative project, addressing inclusivity within the music industry, dismantling ideas of toxicity and competition, and the importance of looking after your mental health when we are so often told to work harder.
