الوصف

Akeem Smith grew up between Brooklyn, New York and Kingston, Jamaica, where his aunt and grandmother were figures of the city's dancehall culture. Over a decade ago he began collecting family photos and videos – archival work that grew into an artistic practice as he sought to bring those archives out of the shadows and into the public view. Smith was the first artist selected for residency at the foundation Lafayette Anticipations in Paris. He spoke to FRANCE 24's Alison Sargent about his latest solo show, death, fashion and making galleries more inclusive spaces.
