Amos 5 v 1 Hear ye this word which I take up against you, even a lamentation, O house of Israel.<br /><br />The focal message in the book of Amos is that God sees his people on the same level as He views the nations and as a result He expects the same level of purity from them.<br /><br />Amos is a special book as it emphasises a particular message about God execution of justice and judgment over nations specifically that of Israel and Judah. However concerning the Israelites, Amos had a special message them as God had chosen and sent him to preach to them.<br /><br />In this study we are going to examine Amos’s understanding of what it meant to both live for and to seek God. <br /><br />As it was written Amos message  was call to repentance for Israel as a result of its to sins and to likewise seek to be spared of God’s punishment and severe judgment. Despite the many prophets that were sent and the many warnings. God had to punish Israel due to the many sin and her failure to repent from her many social and religious sins. <br /><br />The main cities identified by Amos that were guilty of practicing religious sins and wickedness were Bethel, Gilgal, and Beersheba.. This is where Israel’s idol worshiping was practiced until it evoked social sins in the community. <br />God never wanted harm to come to Israel several times He begged her to obey his commandments as a consequence of Israel’s disobedience and sins God caused the nation to be captivated by other nations. This was documented by Amos.<br /><br />Concluding the meaning of the word seek in the start of our study Amos 5:4-6. For Amos, it implied that seeking God was equivalent to seeking goodness and engaging in justice and rightness. And ensuring that God is worshipped In spirit and truth by seeking the word of the Lord (Amos 5:14,15; 8:12).  <br />Through this God’s assurance as He had promised Israel would have been “you may live”.
