60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: What Simple Words Start Your Story?

<p>Hello to you listening in <a href="https://www.holland.org/" target="_blank">Holland, Michigan</a>!</p><p>Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga  </p><p>All great stories start with simple words. For example:</p><p>“<i>Here is a small fact. You are going to die</i>.” [The Book Thief by Markus Zusak]</p><p>“<i>It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.</i>” [1984 by George Orwell]</p><p>“<i>This is the story of a man named Eddie and it starts at the end, with Eddie dying in the sun. It may seem strange to start a story with an ending, but all endings are also beginnings. We just don't know it at the time</i>.” [The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom]</p><p>What’s happening here? It could be the “<i>sorcery of stories</i>.” Practically speaking it’s how each writer imagined a scene, combined the words - simple words - and made their story one of a kind.</p><p><strong>Practical Tip</strong>: Sit yourself in a comfortable spot with some blank pieces of paper and a few colored markers. Breathe, gaze off into space, imagine a scene. With all the intention of a playful experiment begin to doodle with simple word images to start your great story with that scene.</p><p>And, if you would like a hand up to clarify your ideas and language, signal me.
