60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: Being Your Own Good Self.

<p>Hello! to you in Tauberbischofsheim, Germany.</p><p>Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday with questions carefully chosen to help you collect stories in the oral tradition or spark your own writing. Either way, you'll say, "<i>Thanks for the memories</i>."</p><p>When I was in the 8th grade I changed schools mid-year because my dad was transferred. My new teacher scheduled a parent-teacher meeting with my mom who came away with this: “<i>Mrs. Wyzga, I’m afraid that Diane is just a good average</i>.”  </p><p>Let’s put aside for a moment what possessed my mother to share this judgment with me and explore the fall-out. For years I chased what was better than “<i>a good average</i>.” I succeeded beyond wildest dreams.</p><p>But at the end of the day it took a lot of living and a lot of learning to really embrace this fact: The miracle of a well-lived life is that you grow up to be your own good self; the rest is just parlor tricks and carnival games.</p><p><strong>Story Prompt</strong>: When did you beat the odds and succeed when someone said you wouldn’t? Write that story!</p><p><strong>Practical Tip</strong>: The magic of stories is also in the sharing.
