One thousand years after the Norse first settled in North America, they are heading back to try again. The choice to migrate away from Iceland is not their own. Their island has been an oasis of civilization in a world gone mad following The Long Night – when artificial intelligence failed and took down all computer controlled processes around the world, wiping out over 90% of humanity. Insulated by a cold but bountiful Atlantic Ocean, Iceland has maintained order in a world plunged into darkness. Now Iceland's volatile geology is the greatest threat her people face. The volcanoes responsible for her amazing beauty now threaten annihilation - a geological time bomb ready to wipe them out. With limited options, the Althing tasks the young warriors of the Icelandic Crisis Response Unit and Víkingasveit with finding a suitable new home somewhere along the devastated coast of North America. At first they encounter little organized resistance, mostly just hostile survivors of the abandoned mega cities.
