There have always been barriers to black Americans getting quality jobs. These are racial discrimination, a high rate of incarceration of black Americans and diversity program deficiencies, among other reasons. Black Americans comprise 13 percent of the U.S. population. Yet, they are significantly underrepresented in professional roles and leadership positions. Black professionals hold only 3.2 percent of all executive or senior leadership roles and less than 1 percent of all Fortune 500 CEO positions.
