Lord of Ajasa (real name Olusegun Osaniyi) is a veteran Nigerian rapper and songwriter, widely recognized as the pioneers of Yoruba-language rap in the Nigerian music industry. Born in Akure, Ondo State, he rose to fame in the early 2000s with his breakout single “Ma Yi Lo”, which was celebrated for its clever wordplay and use of streetwise Yoruba. He is known for blending traditional Yoruba idioms with modern hip-hop beats, paving the way for artists like Olamide, Reminisce, and others who later popularized indigenous rap. His stage name “Ajasa” means “flavor” or “style” in Yoruba, reflecting his distinctive lyrical identity. Lord of Ajasa has collaborated with many major Nigerian artists, including 9ice, 2Shotz, and the late Dagrin. Despite stepping away from the limelight for some years due to health challenges, his contribution to the Nigerian music scene remains significant, especially for pushing indigenous rap into mainstream consciousness.
